Hold the Front Page
I've always loved seeing my images printed out. I'm probably old school and it hails from Thursday lunchtimes when my Art teacher Mrs. Brown, gave up her time to imply her knowledge to the "Camera Club". Now this was 1985 and memory cards, photoshop and digital cameras were stuff of magical wizardry. We worked in the darkroom, under red light, swooshing developer in well loved and slightly leaky reel tanks, trying desperately not to splash fixer on our beloved little Hi-Tec trainers or red Kicker boots!
Fast forward 40 years and at the tender age of 55 I have just had my first glossy magazine cover. My photo of Finn the 8 week old Black Labrador (who smelled of popcorn and wet grass) was chosen to be the March/April cover of the British Association of Shooting and Conservation magazine. 150,000 copies were printed and sent out including one to me. My poor Postman was probably sick to death of me asking if there was "anything for me?" as I waited so patiently for my copy to arrive.
So this really brought home to me the importance of the printed photo and how lovely it looks. And yes, it will be on my coffee table lying nonchalantly for some time to come!
